Geysers in Yellowstone

Old Faithful

Yellowstone National Park is the home to much volcanic and thermal activity. One of the unique geographical features of the park are its geysers. The park is home to over 500 of these beautiful fountains. Geysers are essentially hot springs that have frequent eruptions. These eruptions are caused by extremely hot water below the ground which is trapped in the channels leading to the surface. The pressure then builds until the geyser eventually erupts.

The most famous geyser in Yellowstone National Park is Old Faithful. This geyser gained its fame by being the most predictable geographical feature in the world. The geyser always erupts roughly every hour and a half. It was the first geyser in the park to receive a name and attracts countless visitors each year from all over the globe.
