Wildlife in Yellowstone
Popular Wildlife
Yellowstone’s abundant wildlife is famous for its diversity of creatures. There are amphibians, birds, mammals, and reptiles. Some unique amphibians are the blotched tiger salamander, boreal chorus frog, Boreal Toad, and the Columbia spotted frog. The bird species include the Bald Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, and the Osprey. Mammals of Yellowstone are Bears, Bighorn Sheep, Bison, Bobcats, Coyotes, Elk, Lynx, Moose, Mountain Lion, and wolves. The reptiles are the last types and include the Bull snake, Prairie Rattlesnake, Rubber Boa, Sagebrush Lizard, Valley Garter Snake, and the Wandering Garter Snake.
Viewing Wildlife
Early morning and evening hours are when animals feed and are more easily seen. Keep a safe distance from all wildlife, 100 yards from bears and wolves, and 25 yards from all other wildlife. If you cause an animal to move you are too close, by being sensitive to its needs you will see more of its natural behavior.
